The Indiana Emergency Response Commission (IERC) honors Sherman Greer with a meritorious award in recognition of more than 2 decades of exemplary service to Vanderburgh County.
Greer, the Democratic Party’s candidate for Vanderburgh County’s District 2 County Commissioner seat, served 23 years as the head of the county’s Emergency Management/Homeland Security office. During that time, he coordinated and oversaw relief efforts for Vanderburgh County’s worst disasters, earning praise from local, state, and federal officials, and leading Vanderburgh County to be cited as the nation’s model community for disaster relief by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The IERC presented Greer with its meritorious award this morning at its annual conference, held at the Sheridan Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing.
“I’m extremely honored to receive recognition today from the Indiana Emergency Response Commission for our efforts to aid Vanderburgh County residents in their times of need,” Greer said. “I had the privilege of working with many tremendous men and women at the local, state, and federal level over the course of my 23 years at EMA; I’m proud to share this award with everyone who helped make our disaster response a model for the rest of the nation.”
