A Plea Deal Has Been Reached in Beumer Trial

-    Ira Beumer, his attorney, and Vanderburgh Prosecutor's Office have agreed for him to plead guilty to criminal recklessness.
He was on trial this week for murder. Beumer is accused of running his truck into a car full of burglary suspects who he had caught in his home in 2012. The men were driving away from the scene. One of them was killed, Antuan Jenkins. An Indiana State Police accident investigator testified data from Beumer's truck showed he was going nearly 70 mph while the other car was going just 23 mph. The other three men have all been convicted for their parts in the break-in.  A fourth suspect, who was in another car driving away from the scene, was also arrested that night and convicted.
The prosecution had rested its case Tuesday. The defense began soon after and were resuming this morning. As part of the plea deal, the attempted murder and battery charges were dropped. Beumer will be sentenced April 23. He faces 2-8 years in prison.
