Through the eyes of an artist and the hands of volunteers, a Main Street mural is beginning to take form.
This week, famed artist Artur Silva has started working on a giant mural just off of North Main Street in Evansville.
Silva was commissioned by Echo Housing to do the mural.
Earlier this month, he began taking pictures of fabric samples provided by people in the community.
Those pictures, and a little bit of Photoshop eventually became the design of the mural.
Silva says it's a piece of art that will be big, bold and bright.
"My work has very impactful visual elements. That is just a natural occurrence in the work. But really, it's about having conversations with the community. That's the most interesting part besides the mural."
Silva says it will take a few weeks to paint the mural, and you can be involved.
You can volunteer today through Friday from 2pm to “whenever” each day.
Silva says you don't have to be an accomplished artist because it's almost like painting-by-numbers.
