The west side of Evansville serves up a slice of unique after a young business owner brings his new idea to the area. Azzip Pizza has been open for about two months. Customers say Azzip has quickly become a hit, but there's more behind to the slice than meets the eye.
"I had no idea that this is something that was going to happen so early in life," says Brad Niemeier. Twenty-four year old Niemeier says, he won a business planning competition as a student at Purdue University. That competition lands him twenty-thousand dollars to help start his own company. "Starting my own business is something I have always wanted to do, but I had no idea I would be able to start one right out of college."
The west side native says he decided to open, where else, but the west side of Evansville. You can even take a bite of his native area with a pizza that's called 'the west sider.' The pizza is complete with unique toppings. "Grippos, ski, and Mark's Barbecue Sauce. Yeah, very west side," Niemeier says.
At Azzip Pizza the concept is just a little bit different, because here, you get to build your own pizza. "Choose your sauce first, then you choose your meat, after that you choose your vegetables, and then it bakes in two minutes twenty seconds," says Niemeier.
It's custom personalized pizza he's serving up. "I started to do some research into, and I really couldn't find this type of restaurant around the country," says Niemeier.
What's the verdict on this west side hot spot? "Yeah, that's really good." Sarah Kelley says it's her first time in, and it wont be her last. "You know that you're going to know the workers there, and you're going to know the owners. It's just that small town feel that you're going to lose with a bigger franchise."
Azzip or pizza spelled backwards, has employed fifteen people locally. Owners say there is a possibility Azzip Pizza could be at the Fall Fest.
