A barge traveling through the Evansville bend of the Ohio River came very close to the Tropicana Riverboat Thursday.

According to Lt. Kate Cameron of the Ohio Valley sector of the Coast Guard, the empty barge encountered strong winds while making the turn and crews were concerned they would run into the riverboat so they headed toward the riverbank. Empty barges are more susceptible to strong winds.

Cameron said there was no damage, no pollution and no injuries. She said the company has five days to submit paperwork for the Coast Guard’s investigation.
