Former Indiana high school basketball star and current NBA player Greg Oden is arrested overnight in Lawrence following an altercation with a former girlfriend.
Lawrence Police say they were called to a home in the 7000 block of Maple Bluff Plaza around 3:20 this morning.
When police arrived, they found the victim on the sofa with blood all over her face as well as the sofa and on the floor of the sitting area.
According to a police report, the victim suffered swelling to the nose and lacerations to the forehead and nose.
The victim told police she had fallen but was unable to say where or when.
Police later spoke with a relative in the home who said Greg Oden punched the victim in the face following an argument.
When police spoke with Oden, he told them, "Things got out of control and I started to go after the victim. My relative and witness tried to hold me back but as I swung my arms to move them out of the way, then punched the victim in the face.....I was wrong and I know what has to happen."
Oden was then placed in custody and taken to jail.
Police say Oden dated the victim for two years, but the two just recently broke up.
