He's a police officer now, but Josh Doane's career started out on a different path.

"I went from being a mechanic to delivering milk to doing a job I've always wanted to do."

But as a mechanic, he was never held at gunpoint.

"It was a domestic violence run that turned into a foot pursuit, the guy ended up pulling a gun on me."

Officer Doane's courage is frequently on display. Another time, he pulled a man from a burning trailer.

"We got him out in time, but it was close."

He also helped rescue a deputy who'd fallen into the Ohio River.

Each time Officer Doane has put his own life at risk to save another, there's one thought in the back of his mind.

"I was more worried about my wife than anything.  I don't want to leave her with all of the bills by herself."

Taking big leaps of courage started when Officer Doane made a change in his mid twenties, following a dream he'd had since he was a little boy.

"He's wanted this for a long time, and he's really good at what he does."

And now, at just thirty one years old, he's already a highly decorated police officer.

"If I make a difference in my career, in one person's life, that's all I care about."

He's not only making a difference in his community, he's following in the footsteps of his grandfather.

"I had fallen in the exact footsteps he did.  He was a mechanic, then he was a milkman, then he was a sheriff's deputy."

And now it's Officer Doane's turn to be the rock of the family.

"He is my hero in more ways than just serving as a police officer and protecting his community."

We salute Officer Josh Doane, serving his community, behind the badge.
