EVANSVILLE, INDIANA – The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau announces the return of the General Association of General Baptists to Evansville for their 2017 international convention. The General Baptist Ministries made their decision to return to Evansville s due to the announcement of the new downtown convention hotel.
The General Baptists held their annual conventions in Evansville in 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2009. “General Baptists have been unable to return to Evansville since 2009 due to the absence of a downtown convention hotel,” said Clint Cook, executive director. He credits the “hard work” by Mayor Winnecke and staff, the City Council, the Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau and local business leaders for successfully re-building the convention business in Evansville. “We want to say thanks to the City of Evansville, Indiana for making a way for General Baptists to come home again. We will see you in July of 2017!”
The General Association of General Baptists was founded in Evansville in 1823 by Stinson Bononi. Howell Baptist General is the original church of the association now headquartered in Poplar Bluff, Mo. The association has grown today to over 800 churches in the United States with international work in Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras, the Philippines, and India. More than 1,200 members attended the 2009 convention. Organizers expect the 2017 conference will attract hundreds of stateside members as well members from Honduras, the Philippines, India and other international countries.
