The new Henderson Police Chief is announced. The title is given to Chip Stauffer.
In December the former Chief resigned, while an interim served in the mean time. After about four months, and narrowing down a list of candidates, the Commissioners vote unanimously. Chip Stauffer will now lead Henderson's finest.
"It is my pleasure to recommend to the Board of Commissioners, that Major Charles 'Chip' Stauffer, be named Chief of Police," says City Manager Russell Sights. Chip Stauffer proudly accepts his new title as Chief of Police for the city of Henderson. "You start at the lowest level, you work your way through the ranks, and you're given the opportunity of a lifetime," says Stauffer.
Stauffer has been with the department for twenty years. He graduated from Shelby County High School, and went to college at Kentucky Wesleyan. A short time later he joined the police force in Henderson.
"Developing relationships with people in the community." Stauffer says one of his main goals as Police Chief is building a sense of community between the officers and people of Henderson. "Allow the community to see police officers in a different light," Stauffer says.
City Manager, Russell Sights, says there were several factors that lead them to their decision. "You want to feel comfortable, that you've chosen the best person that you can, and I think that was done tonight," says Sights.
With a unanimous vote, the Commissioners say they feel the same. "I firmly, wholeheartedly, believe that this was a good choice," says Commissioner Jan Hite. "Looking at what you've done just in the last couple of years, continuing your education, raising your family, and doing the job that you do in the city of Henderson, I don't know how you've done it, but Congratulations," says Commissioner Tom Davis. "He's still not the Chief of the house, it's just this," Stauffer's wife jokes.
Stauffer also received his twenty year pin during the Commission meeting. He will begin his role as Police Chief starting Wednesday morning.
