City Council Approves Tax Phase-In For Berry Plastics

- Evansville City Council signs off on an incentive package, clearing the way for a local company's expansion. Berry Plastics says the multi-million dollar expansion will bring 280 jobs to Evansville over the next two years. The city is offering the company a 10-year tax phase-in on real property and personal property, an estimated $4.5 million in savings.

Berry Plastics says the company looked at four different states and several international locations before deciding to expand in Evansville.

"For them to choose Evansville is huge," said Debbie Dewey, director of the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville. "I mean it's 280 jobs. They already employ over 2,000. This is a tremendous vote of confidence for Evansville."

Berry Plastics says the new jobs will pay an average of $18.50 per hour, plus benefits. The expansion is part of the company's plans to beef up four of its Indiana locations this year.
