Coaches, Doctors Working To Prevent, Treat Concussions

-

The Castle Youth Football League and the Deaconess Concussion Clinic are teaming up to help prevent and treat concussions.

On the field, coaches are teaching athletes to keep their heads up and shoulders back when tackling.

Off the field, the Deaconess Concussion Clinic is giving older athletes in the league a computerized speed and memory test. Lead clinical provider Gina Topper said it will be used as a baseline if the athlete suffers a concussion during the season.

The test administered Saturday is used nationwide. League officials say they plan to use the test again in the future.
