The SAT college entrance exam is getting a major overhaul. The head of the college board announces one of the biggest changes is the essay portion will be optional.

The test will include three sections: reading and writing, math, and the essay. But the essay portion will be graded on a separate scale.

Overall scoring will drop from 2400 back to 1600, and there will be no penalty for wrong answers.

The new test will be available in Spring 2016.
