Last week, a large part of the road opened at the intersection of Oregon St. and N. Main St. Officials tell us the sinkhole is more than 12 feet deep.
Since it rained quite a bit Monday, the sewer department had to wait until today to start repairing the lines. They say it could've been much worse. The line that collapsed was a smaller one that fed into a bigger sewer main.
"Obviously, everything underground is out of sight and out of mind," said Travis Hildebrand of the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility. "We don't know there is an issue until it happens. We are active in TVing all of our sewer lines and cleaning it. But until we come across an issue, we don't know."
We're told repairs to the line should be finished by tomorrow or Thursday. The water department also has to fix some pipes at the sinkhole. Then it'll all have to be repaved.
