Evansville’s skyline will shine a little brighter Thursday evening. For the first time in about eight years, the Curtis Building sign will be illuminated. Owner Stacy Stevens bought the building in 2012. She said she was determined to get the sign working again after it had become worn and dysfunctional.
The sign caused controversy in mid-90s when some thought it was too large. Then-building owner Ed Curtis received approval from city council after calling part of the sign art.
The new sign will be LED unlike the previous neon sign, but Stevens said it will shine just as brightly.
There will be a sign lighting celebration at the building from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The sign will be turned on at 8:14 p.m.
