Habitat for Humanity has been working hard sheltering those in need for the past 30 years, and its volunteers are continuing that tradition in the Jacobsville area.

Deaconess Hospital is the latest group ready to help people in need finally get their own homes. Hospital officials presented habitat with 17 parcels of land today.

One of Deaconess's employees is a Habitat for Humanity homeowner himself.

"Wonderful, exciting, proud of having a home, like mine," said Charles Axley. "And just being in it and enjoying it. Just living each day like it is."

The land, located on Garfield St., will be used to build five or six new homes. That construction is expected to begin in early 2015.
