EPD is using social media outlets, like twitter, to get parking information out to fans before they get to town. They sent out a Google map marking all available parking areas to incoming teams, in an effort to mitigate any problems.
Normal on-street parking time limits will remain in effect Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To avoid time limits, sports fans can park in the "Back 40" for free or pay five dollars to park in the Sycamore Street or Locust Street parking garages.
"The hours we're really wanting to make sure people can understand where they can and can't park is on Wednesday. After that I think we'll be sittin' pretty," says Evansville Police Sgt. Jason Cullum.
Wednesday afternoon games will overlap with regular work week traffic, as the tournament kicks off at noon.
"We'll have our normal downtown traffic, Civic Center traffic, business traffic, in conjunction with the Ford Center traffic, so we want to make sure that parking is not an issue. A lot of people are gonna be coming into town that aren't gonna be familiar with parking places that UE fans and Icemen fans are aware of," says Sgt. Cullum.
While it's unknown how many people will attend the tournament, EPD hopes getting the parking information out early will save both fans and residents headaches in the days to come.
