It has to be tough to choose just one. Out of eight nominations for this year's Firefighter of the Year, a veteran member gets the title today.

Mike Doran has served on the Evansville Fire Department for 14 years. He was given the honor at this morning's Kiwanis Club Breakfast at the Red Cross.

Doran is one of the founding members of 911 Gives Hope and has participated in every Guns and Hoses charity events.

"I boxed for 20 years," said Doran. "I boxed in the amateurs. I boxed in the Golden Gloves, and it was great. I was getting old, and my career was winding down. And Guns and Hoses came along, and that was a great thing."

Doran is also active with the Evansville Association for the Blind. He mentors at-risk kids and is also an instructor with the Community Emergency Response team.
