It's official, the EVSC has approved big changes to how long your children will be in school next year.

Tonight, the school board voted to extend the school day for elementary children by 34 minutes. That extra time request came from teachers, and it will add just around a month of school time to the calendar.

Now, K through 8, middle, and high schools will actually start earlier in day, but no time is added. School Board President Chris Kiefer says change is hard but not impossible.

"Whenever you have change," said Kiefer, "there's going to be some challenges you're going to face. And we will work. It's a site based decision, and we will work with the parents at each site to do what's best for them."

Kiefer says parents are welcome to contact school officials with any and all concerns.
