Wednesday at the Convention Center in Owensboro, Governor Beshear is signing a bill concerning newborn screening for Krabbe disease.

The legislation, known as the "Anna Claire Taylor Law," will add Krabbe disease to the list of conditions for which newborns are screened.

The General Assembly had heard testimony from the parents of Anna, a child with the disorder.

The parents urged treatment must begin before symptoms appear.

Krabbe disease is a degenerative disorder affecting the nervous system typically beginning before the age of one year.
