A major announcement about health care for thousands of people in Indiana who don't have health insurance. Governor Mike Pence will dramatically expand the Healthy Indiana Plan instead of widening Medicaid.

He made the announcement on what's called "The Healthy Indiana Plan 2.0" in Indianapolis this morning. The news comes after months of negotiations with the federal government over whether it would accept the state's health plan or a revised version of it.

More than 300,000 uninsured Hoosiers could be covered under Pence's proposal. In some case, participants would have to make monthly payments.

If Pence's plan is approved by the federal government, the new coverage could roll out as early as next year.
