Henderson Mayor Discusses 911 Overhaul

-

Henderson County and the City of Henderson are looking to update its dated emergency 911-call system.

Henderson Mayor Steve Austin said the system has been fragile for years. He said many details of the plan still need to be worked out, but they plan to do three phases. The first phase will update equipment in the Henderson County dispatch center. The second phase will update first responder’s radios and the third phase will set up an antenna system that will eliminate some dead spots in the county.

Austin estimates the price tag to be around four million dollars. To fund it, he said they are looking at every financial avenue possible. He said they are working with a consultant to determine prices and a timeline. He should have an estimate by September.
