Indiana Outlines Final Draft of Proposed Academic Standards

The state released a final draft for proposed academic standards that could take effect in Hoosier classrooms next year. Tuesday, the Department of Education says these standards involve Math and English/Language Arts education for grades K-12, opposed to the National Common Core Standards. The Common Core standards were adopted in 2010, but Governor Mike Pence signed legislation in March to remove the state from the standards. The Department of Education says educators across Indiana spent more than 6000 hours constructing these standards. Go to http://www.in.gov/sboe/2505.htm to review the draft. A discussion will take place on April 21 and the recommendations will be submitted to the State Board of Education for approval on April 28.
