Flowers blooming, the warmer weather, we're all looking forward to the Spring season.

But Spring time is also prime breeding season for cats. And the Vanderburgh Humane society needs to make some room before the rush.

That's why it's holding the "March Catness" campaign. Shelter officials hope the tie-in to college basketball will generate some interest in finding the adult cats permanent homes.

Now through April 5, cat adoption fees will be cut to just $25. That includes a micro-chip, vaccines, and the animal would come spayed or neutered. Having your animal fixed is something VHS officials are very passionate about.

"Right now, our "Cat Snip in your Zip" program, if you live in 47710, you can get your cat spayed or neutered for free," said VHS Executive Director Kendall Paul. "That includes free vaccination, so we're hoping people will take advantage of that. If we can reduce the number of cats born in the Evansville-Vanderburgh community, that's going to reduce the number that will end up in these shelters."

Sticking with the "March Madness" theme, the VHS even has a "Sweet 16" list of cats hanging out in their cat lounge. Those cats have been at the shelter the longest. So, make sure you check them out.
