25th Anniversary of C-130 Crash

A military plane forever changed Evansville 25 years ago when it fell from the sky. Like many major events, the question 'Where were you?' applies to Tri-Staters when talking about the 1992 C-130 crash.

On February 6, 1992, 16 people died when a military transport plane dropped onto the JoJo's Restaurant and Drury Inn at US 41 and Lynch Rd. The crash was devastating.

The crew on board was practicing takeoffs and landings at Evansville Regional Airport.

However, the plane lost power and plunged into the restaurant and hotel nearby.

All five crew members were killed. 11 people died on the ground in those buildings.

The aftershocks of the tragedy were felt for decades.

On Monday night, join Eyewitness News at 9 on Local 7 WTVW as we remember the crash and the countless lives touched – from first responders to hotel workers.

Dan Grimm of the Evansville Fire Department will join Brad Byrd for the special Eyewitness News In-Depth at 9.
