At Least 10,000 Watched Eclipse in Madisonville

Crowd attendance figures are coming together for “The Great Eclipse” on Monday, and some of the crowds did not appear as big as originally predicted.

Madisonville Mayor David Jackson said at least 10,000 people were at venues across the city watching the eclipse.

Early estimates from other agencies predicted 30,000 visitors.

Mahr Park and Madisonville City Park had at least 3,000 people watching the event.

“I felt like what we did, we handled well. I maybe would've liked to see more of an impact for our businesses. But again, having 10,000 extra people in town, plus all the eclipse-related buying going on, I think everybody did pretty well,” said Mayor Jackson.

The mayor said the city will use some lessons learned from what happened Monday and use them when hosting future major events.
