Authorities Looking for Man in Officer Involved Shooting

The Martin County Sheriff’s Department is asking for your help identifying and finding the suspect in an early morning officer involved shooting.

It happened at 5:15 a.m. Monday when a deputy pulled over a light colored 2012-2017 Dodge Dart on Mobley Road, about four miles north of Shoals.

As the deputy began speaking with the driver, we’re told the driver pulled out a handgun and tried to point it at the deputy. A struggle ensued, and authorities say the driver fired a shot at the deputy – narrowly missing him.

We’re told the driver drove away, dragging the deputy a short distance before the deputy fired one shot at the driver. The deputy eventually lost sight of the driver.

The suspect is a white male, believed to be approximately six feet tall, and was wearing a black hooded shirt and blue jeans.  The suspect is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting or a possible suspect is asked to contact the Martin County Sheriff’s Department at (812) 247-3726.
