Authorities Still Investigating Warrick Crash

Law enforcement is trying to figure out exactly what happened before a deadly crash in Warrick County.

"9-11, do you have an emergency?”

“Um, no, it's not an emergency. I was driving through Chandler, and there was a red SUV driving on the wrong side of the road.”

That call was made early Saturday morning, around 1:30 AM.

"Well, we do have officers (who are) gonna check the area, okay?”
“Okay, cool, I just wanted to make sure nobody got hurt or anything."

But unfortunately, the call to 9-1-1 was a harbinger for tragedy.

"9-11, do you have an emergency?”
“Yes ma'am, there's just been a car wreck, oh never mind, the cops are already here."

15-year-old Boonville High School freshman Skylar Robinson-Williamson was killed.

The person driving the vehicle she was in, 20-year-old Whitney Winstead, and the other passenger, 18-year-old Megan Ripperdan, both former Boonville students, were taken to St. Mary's.

So was the wrong-way -river, 18-year-old Osiel Marroquin.

Winstead was since released, but Marroquin and Ripperdan remain hospitalized. Ripperdan is in critical condition.

As far as the reason Marroquin was driving in the wrong lane, Warrick County Sherriff Brett Kruse said it’s still under investigation.

He hasn't been arrested, but he will be interviewed when he's in better condition. Kruse said it’s best to avoid speculation right now.

"You know, if anybody has information on it, and, or on the driver, we'd like to know that. Anything, any information that they have on the whereabouts of where Mr. Marroquin would've been, we would like to know that,” Kruse said.

For now, devastated friends and families can only wait for answers.

The principal of Boonville High School is allowing what is called a "no-fault final" waver for finals week.

Finals will not negatively affect the students' grades, allowing them time to grieve.
