Businesses Partner to Restore War Hero's Home Today

Dozens of local volunteers will pitch in to help spruce up the home of an Evansville native war hero on Thursday.

Restoration is being performed to the home on Wedeking Avenue which pays tribute to Vanderburgh County native, James Bethel Gresham, the first American fatality of World War I.

Earlier this year, a generous donation allowed local leaders to move forward with a project to overhaul the house.

The home will serve as temporary housing for veterans and offer advice to help residents acclimate back into civilian life.

About 40 workers representing Home Depot and ECHO Housing will work on improvements throughout the home.
