'Celebrate Straight Pride' Flyers Found at Jasper High School

(NNDC) School officials arriving at Jasper High School Friday morning found posted flyers with an invitation to "celebrate straight pride at JHS."

The first line of the flyer says “Celebrate being straight at JHS by not annoying the heck out of everyone about your sexual orientation.”

NNDC has been told the flyers were taken down before any students arrived at school Friday morning and the person responsible has been identified by school officials.  We were not able to reach principal Brian Wilson to confirm this.

We are also told school officials will make a formal statement about the flyer later.

The flyers are believed to be in response to a banner that was hung at the school earlier by an LGBT support group made up mostly of JHS students.  A group picture was posted on Facebook Monday evening.

Jasper High School has a Gay Straight Alliance advocacy group which boasts 50 members according to its Facebook.  The Alliance also has a JHS faculty member as a co-leader.

Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools posted this statement on Facebook.
