Chandler launches flag design contest ahead of new town hall

"Every town needs upgrades."

And upgrades are what the town of Chandler is getting this year.

Starting with a new town hall, which is currently undergoing renovations.

It will relocate between Casey's General Store and Dollar General on Lincoln Avenue, allowing for more parking -- and room -- than its current location on East Jefferson Avenue.

"It's a great first class building, there won't be much upkeep to it and it's big enough," says area neighbor Bob Gehres.

But no modern town hall is complete without a flag.

Later this year a new flag pole will be placed at the new town hall, and the flag that flies on it could be designed by you.

The town is holding a flag contest to find the best design for Chandler's official flag.

"I suspect that you'll start seeing it on some of the letterheads, some of the websites, and hopefully if it catches on you'll see it all around town and really help build pride in Chandler itself," says Chandler town attorney Josh Claybourn.

Anyone can submit their entries in person at Chandler's current town hall, or via email until July 30.

The winner will receive $100, and the runner up will receive $50.

"Chandler's a very lucky town...it's a great place to live and good people living here," says Gehres.

And the winning design needs to reflect that. Chandler's town council will pick the winner in a blind vote, and then the flag will fly.

"It represents the city of Chandler well -- you know, when they put that name up there, you know, town hall and all that stuff... we're gonna go up in this world!"
