Chucky's Mission Piles Toys for Kids in Hospitals

It's said big things come in small packages. But what if big things came in even bigger packages? In a green metal storage unit, filled with bags bound for boys and girls?

That's the package heading for Evansville children; bringing hope to hospitals one toy at a time. It's a dream come true for a pair of Tri-State kids on a mission.

Children stuck in hospital beds won't have a typical Christmas morning in the coming weeks, but with the help of Chucky Williams and his friend Kameryn Dix, those kids will come close.

A Christmas blessing by giving back, and a sign of love for someone above.

“Seeing other kids have cancer just makes me sad,” Chucky says, “I want to make them all feel better.”

He knows the feeling. His dad died from cancer at 32 years-old.

“I don't like seeing other kids have cancer, so I want to give them a good Christmas,” he adds with a nervous smile.

This massive donation was matched by Glad Products to fill the storage unit on Evansville's east side. It's a cherry on top of the city's 911 Gives Hope toy drive sponsored by first responders.

“If we've done as well as I think we have, maybe if you get a kid that's in the [hospital] for a week, maybe he gets a toy every day now,” says Evansville Police Department Chief, Billy Bolin.

He says this year's drive has doubled last year's total, and that's before Chucky's haul.

“When you have kids like this, that put together something this big, it's a great feeling,” Bolin says.

Honoring his father's memory by bringing joy to hospitals where there is often very little. “Their parents have to pay all the medical bills and they don't get a lot of toys,” Chucky says.

Big things do come in small packages, and even bigger things are hard to put under a box and bow.

But they wouldn't have it any other way.
