Contractor Scheduled to Plead Guilty for Fraud

An Evansville home improvement contractor charged with theft and fraud is scheduled to plead guilty on Wednesday in court.

Ray Engler says he lost $1,500 to Newman after putting down a deposit to have his roof repaired. Engler says despite the plea agreement, there is no stipulation forcing Newman to pay back the money.

"I'm pretty frustrated," said Engler. "I know there's a lot of people in this area that have dealt with this gentleman and have had similar things happen to them, and I just don't think it's fair to the general public."

Engler says he has asked the judge to deny the plea agreement and for the case to go to trial.

The Prosecutor's Office says they cannot comment on an ongoing case.
