Contracts Held by Peyronnin Construction Abandoned

A major hurdle cleared in the effort to restart several western Kentucky construction projects including a major one in downtown Owensboro.

A trustee for Peyronnin Construction abandoned all contracts the company had. That means the search for new contractors begins.

"It's going to take some time and we recognize that," says McLean Co. Judge Executive Kelly Thurman.

For two months, time has stood still at sites where Peyronnin used to work. But after its contracts were abandoned, work could move forward months from now.

"I think the entire process has gone about as its expected," says Ed Ray, Owensboro City Attorney, when asked about the Peyronnin Construction bankruptcy process.

Bankruptcy Trustee Stacy Wissel says the contracts on six sites, including three in western Kentucky, were abandoned last week, but the whole bankruptcy case may not be fully resolved until this fall.  It allows companies with bonds on the contracts to start choosing new contractors.  McLean County Judge Executive Kelly Thurman says work may restart at the treatment plant in the next 60 days once a new contractor is in place.

"Most of the connections and water lines being laid around the county to implement the system are now complete. The remainder of the work is primarily functional within the plant itself here and around the Green River," Thurman says.

Owensboro City Attorney Ed Ray says any new contractor for the International Bluegrass Music Museum doesn't need to be approved again by the city, since the project was already budgeted. But the site will be reviewed before work resumes.

"Getting the new contractor, getting a contract with the surety company, and getting all the subcontractors lined up in their specific trades is all part of the process, it takes time," Ray adds.

As for when construction restarts here, Ray says he doesn't have an exact date yet, but hopes it starts again in the near future.
