Daviess Co. Schools Honored for Healthy Students

Several Daviess County Schools are recognized for encouraging students to be healthy and active.

Daviess County Middle School along with East View, Meadow Lands, and Tamarack Elementary Schools earned the Let's Move Active Schools National Award. They were four of 13 in Kentucky receiving the honor.

The schools were honored for their students getting at least 60 minutes of physical activity in and outside of school.

"Our walking club is year round," said Daviess County Middle School Physical Education teacher Alese Ferrell. "We will walk inside. I try to get the staff involved. We have Wellness Wednesday emails, and we do challenges. We challenge each other, and we do weigh ins and stuff like that to motivate each other to maintain healthy lifestyles."

The schools also were four of more than 300 nationwide named as America's healthiest schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
