A situation in Spencer County as Sheriff's Deputies and Indiana State Police surrounded a home in Hatfield. The incident lasted several hours but ended peacefully.
The investigation started a few weeks ago when authorities say they were getting complaints about possible gunshots in a neighborhood.
Around noon Spencer County deputies tried to serve a search warrant at a house in Hatfield located at Highway 66 and County Road 900 West.
They say they were looking for evidence, but when there wasn't an answer at the door, authorities thought the suspect barricaded himself inside.
Because of the criminal history of the subject, the Sheriff's Office called in Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team for backup.
After several hours of no one answering, a robot was sent inside the home. The robot cleared the first floor, then a K-9 unit searched the house.
Authorities then determined no one was there.
We've learned that at some point deputies contacted the subject. According to deputies, the homeowner says he may turn himself in but doesn't want to do anything until he speaks with a lawyer.
No charges have been filed in this case but the homeowner does have a history with police. The suspect has a history of resisting arrest and violence against police. He also has a felony conviction.
