Disney On Ice skates into Ford Center

Some local underprivileged kids got VIP treatment as magic came to life at Ford Center.

Thursday was opening night for Disney On Ice presents Reach for the Stars.

Kids of all ages in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program were treated as special guests.

The children were not only surprised with tickets to the ice skating show but also had a special meet and greet with the star of the event - Mickey Mouse.

Big Brothers Big Sisters leaders say this is a great opportunity because many of the youth in the program would not be able to see the show otherwise.

"Some of the kids in our program, the only time they get out of the house is whenever they go out with their big brother or big sister," said Kayla McKenzie. "So a really cool opportunity like this to meet the Disney characters and get out of the house and go to the Disney on Ice event is very unique for them because they don't necessarily get to do this all the time."

The show will be at Ford Center through Sunday.
