Enlow Field Gets $1 Million Track Upgrade

It's called a community treasure.

Built in 1926, Enlow Field has been home to Bosse Bulldogs for generations.

But this treasure isn't as treasured by the latest generation as it could be. It's easy to see why, when it comes into focus.

“This is an announcement that I've wanted to make for a long time,” says Dr. David Smith, EVSC Superintendent. “I'm really excited to be able to announce the Keep Bosse First campaign.”

Smith told the crowd at Monday’s school board meeting, they’ll be paying $1 million to revamp the well-worn stadium with a much-needed upgrade to the running track.

What may be the worst to first; Enlow’s track has clearly seen better days. It’s riddled with potholes and loose gravel. But even in its prime, it never really was.

Smith highlighted its flaws, saying “if you continue in your lanes you will run into the school building because two of the lanes disappear.”

The project will start May 22 and take three months to finish. By the end, it'll bounce Bosse's beat up track into six lanes of world class, fit for competition.

The hope is this project will inspire friends and alumni to donate to Keep Bosse First to fund other projects at Enlow.

School officials say the historic grandstand is in good enough shape but they hope to upgrade the stadium roof, restrooms, concessions, and nearby tennis courts with fundraising.

There is no time table for the other projects, but Smith says the faster their Keep Bosse First campaign get donations, the faster they can build.

“It is solidly built,” Smith says, “it just needs tender loving care.”

Enlow's track has lost its luster over the years, but with new shiny treasure, everyone wins.
