Evansville Anti-Trump Group Forms with Anti-Media Policy

Protests and rallies are popping up from coast to coast over President Donald Trump’s policies and Evansville is no exception.

A meeting was called on Facebook with dozens saying they'll be there to be part of a nation-wide effort. It's a simple protest of Trump and his policy, but we learned a bit more about how this group sees news coverage.

Within every book at Evansville's Red Bank library; with every page, there's a lesson to be learned. Big or small, fact or fiction. It was one page, fashioned with tape that sent a message our way.

“Please No Media,” a sign said in big bold letters, taped to the door.

Despite meeting in a public place, Eyewitness News respected their wishes, and so the show goes on.

Here, they're against a certain man in power. “Trump, I believe is the way you pronounce his name,” said Cindy Warren, emphasizing her words.

Many in the anti-Trump camp call the president anti-media. At their introductory meeting for the group that calls itself Indivisible, the door was closed in our face.

We just wanted to know what they're all about.

“I don't like what's going on in Washington right now,” says Ann Wallis.

Indivisible is a group rising in renown across the country by spawning local chapters. The group’s website says it grows with grassroots advocacy. They hope to target local members of congress and prevent the Trump administration from pushing legislation they disagree with.

“I want to start writing more, I want to start calling more,” says JoAnn Learman. She says the group helps organize efforts and lets people know “what bills are coming up, because things change so fast.”

This is the Indivisible Indiana for the 8th district. Its Facebook page doesn't have any upcoming events scheduled, but the national website is detailed with pages and pages of information.

We were told to keep out of Thursday’s planning session while the group leaders gathered their stance. But two weeks in with four years to go for President Trump, some wonder how you can plan.

Learman says having groups to rally with can make a difference in their cause.

“I haven't seen anything like this in my lifetime.”
