Evansville Man Charged in Hanson Store Robbery

An Evansville man has been arrested after Kentucky State Police after robbing a convenience store in Hopkins County.

KSP says the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Ideal Mart on Veterans Lane in Hanson.

Troopers say 19-year-old Tyler Morris Gray of Evansville entered the store and told the clerk he needed to charge his cell phone. The suspect used the electrical outlet by the front door for about two hours before purchasing a soft drink.

As the clerk opened the cash register to give Gray change, troopers say Gray reached over the counter grabbing money from the register. He then handed the clerk a note stating that if he did not give him cash and cigarettes, he would kill the clerk.

After a struggle, KSP says Gray ran out of the store with an undetermined amount of money. No one was hurt during the incident.

KSP says Gray was located and charged with 2nd Degree robbery. He is currently lodged in the Butler County Jail.
