Evansville police seeking information about suspect in Friday night murder

Victim and her family had just returned home from vacation

EVANSVILLE (WEHT) - On Friday night, Chanda Hatt of Evansville was shot and killed in her driveway.

Her family had just returned home from vacation.

The murder of Hatt has left family and friends heartbroken.

A fundraising page has even been set up by the North Husky football team.

The Hatt family helped start the North Youth Football League in 2012.

Officials at North said they take pride in their family atmosphere and are looking to help the Hatt family during this difficult time.

A few neighbors Eyewitness News spoke with said that the incident is devastating and it's hard to believe something like this happened so close to home.

One neighbor told Eyewitness News that even though he didn't know Hatt very well, running to help after hearing gunshots wasn't a question.

"There were civilians on the scene that were attempting to provide medical aid when the officers arrived and they were there when the gun shots were fired,” said EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum. “Fortunately, in the second round of gunfire, no one was injured."

Hatt worked at St. Vincent in Evansville for more than 20 years as an EMT.

On Friday night, Richard Worley was arrested in connection to Hatt's murder.

Worley was also arrested in 2008 for stabbing his girlfriend, Debra Cook, and now people close to the case tell Eyewitness News that Cook was Hatt's mother.

EPD says the investigation is still open even though an arrest was made.

Officers are asking for any information regarding the suspect, Richard Worley, and his whereabouts recently.

You can report any tips anonymously through the We Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME.
