Evansville to Narrow Arts Tax District

Evansville City officials hope less is more when it comes to a special taxing district in the Historic Arts District.

Tuesday morning, the Redevelopment Commission approved the contraction of the special taxing district around Haynie's Corner to apply to commercial properties.

City officials believe this will bring in more tax revenue because residential properties are subtracted from the overall total.

By only having commercial properties in the special tax district, city officials hope the special taxing district will generate more than $100,000 next year.

Money generated from Tax Increment Financing (TIF) can only be spent within that district.

The City Council and Area Plan Commission have already approved the measure.
