Family Loses Home to Fire While Out of Town

One Posey County family is just happy nobody was hurt when their home went up in flames overnight.

It happened just before 2 a.m. Monday on Copperline Road near St. Phillips Rd.

Firefighters from several departments worked to put out the hot spots. At one point while crews worked to put the fire out, the house exploded.

Luckily, there was nobody home at the time. The family was out of town for a wedding.

"It's devastating to the owners that they'd lose everything but, you know, like they always say, “it's easy to replace a home,” but when you have people hurt, that devastates the scene itself,” said Dale Wilzbacher, Marrs Township District Fire Chief.

Right now, firefighters don't have any idea what may have sparked the fire.

It may later this week before additional details on the cause are available.
