Filing taxes sooner reduces risk of identity theft

You have until mid-April to do your taxes, but experts say the sooner you file, the better!

Tax season is here and filing early will give you a better chance to get a faster refund and lessen the odds of becoming a victim of identity theft.

The IRS says it's cracking down on fraud.

Last year, according to the IRS, more than 750,000 fake returns were stopped.

A Social Security Number can only be used once so filing early will ensure a scammer can't use your identity.

In 2017, the average tax refund was $208,000.

More than 155 million returns are expected to be filed in 2018.
