Former Owensboro Fire Battalion Chief Passes Away

The Owensboro Fire Department reports David McCrady has died.

According to the fire department's Facebook page, McCrady joined the OFD in 1993. He eventually rose to the rank of battalion chief.

McCrady was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013, forcing him to retire a few months later. The diagnosis became a rallying cry to change state law which made firefighters who die of cancer eligible for line of duty death benefits.

In recent months, McCrady taught a firefighter cancer awareness program.

According to the fire department, McCrady's arrangements are pending at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro.
