Free Naloxone Rescue Kit Training Being Offered in Vanderburgh County

Vanderburgh County residents can now obtain a free naloxone rescue kit and opioid overdose reversal training.

The training is being offered by the Vanderburgh County Health Department, Deaconess Cross Pointe, and Stepping Stone – Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare.

The Health Department was recently awarded 36 nasal naloxone rescue kits from the Indiana State Department of Health to help prevent overdose deaths.

The kits include the drug naloxone which is used to reverse an opioid overdose, as well as an atomizer which allows the dose to be sprayed into a patient's nose.

The training lasts about 20 minutes. It teaches participants how to use the rescue kit, how to recognize and respond to an overdose, and where to go for substance abuse treatment and support.

Those participating in the training are eligible to receive a free dose of naloxone.

The training can be received by going to the Vanderburgh County Health Department at 420 Mulberry St., going to Deaconess Cross Pointe at 7200 E. Indiana St., or Stepping Stone – Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare at 4001 John St.
