Friday after 5 Remembers Nicky Hayden

A special tribute to motorbike racing star and Tri-State native Nicky Hayden taking place Friday.

The tribute will be part of Friday after 5 in Owensboro.

It will feature special guest speaker, Army Armstrong, a motorsports announcer and good friend of Hayden's. Armstrong will be speaking at 7:45 p.m. Balloons will also be released featuring his racing number, 69.

Hayden died Monday, nearly one week after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Italy on May 17.

People have been placing flowers and balloons at his Owensboro walk of fame plaque. The memorial is on Second Street in downtown Owensboro.

Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson also ordered flags at half-staff in Hayden’s honor.

Hayden was the 2006 MotoGP world champion.
