Harrison High School softball and soccer equipment stolen; local business looks to help

Who is making off with high school sports' gear? Earlier this month we brought you the story that Bosse High School's softball equipment was stolen and now Harrison High School has lost softball and soccer equipment.

A field off Covert Avenue surrounded by a fence with only one way to get in.
“One of our coaches went to open the soccer complex at the Harrison Soccer and Softball Field here, had obviously been a break in overnight,” said EVSC Chief Communications Officer Jason Woebkenberg.

The EVSC telling Eyewitness News it's still an active police investigation and they are unable to provide details on what was stolen.

But after word got out that the theft had occurred, students and parents flocked to social media.

One player creating a GoFundMe page looking to raise $2,200.

Another page looking to raise $7,500.

These pages and social media posts have said: soccer balls, air pumps, scoreboard panels, shirts, food and signs were taken.

One Evansville business, Signarama, seeing these posts, wanting to give back.

“We can't really help with the equipment, sports equipment, or any of the other things that were stolen but signs is what we do so we can certainly help out with that respect,” said Signarama owner Casey Valiant.

Telling the school that they would replace the stolen signs free of cost.

“In a community like Evansville we're so dependent on each other's neighbors and this is just one of the things that's an absolutely horrible experience for the school to have something like that happen to them and it's something to do to help out,” said Valiant.

The EVSC saying the teams will be able carry on and continue playing.

“Obviously any time you have equipment that's been taken it's upsetting but they're gonna be okay and go forward but that doesn't mean they won't miss the items that were taken," said Woebkenberg.
