Harvey Donations being Collected at Tri-State Speedway

Inspired by a family member, a Gibson County man is collecting donations for the hurricane ravaged parts of southeast Texas.

Darrel Russelburg has set up a semi tractor trailer in the parking lot of Tri-State Speedway as a donation dropoff point.

His niece lives in League City, Texas, which is a suburb of Houston. Russleburg's niece has been staying with family in Haubstadt but has kept tabs on the tremendous devastation to not only her home but the homes of other friends and family members.

For Russelburg, the donation drive is personal.

"I've never met anybody in the Tri-State that is hard-hearted, said Russelburg.  "They're all willing and giving people. Sometimes they don't have much to give but they're willing to give up their time."

Russelburg is also teaming up with the North Gibson School Corporation and his employer, T.S. Boyd Grain Company, to collect donations.

Once the trailer is full, Russelburg will be driving the semi down to the Houston area and latching up with the League City Lions Club to distribute the donated items. He hopes to head for the Houston area by Thursday.
