Henderson Sheriff: 100 dead animals found as part of animal cruelty investigation

Authorities said over 400 animals were found on a Henderson County man's 10 acre property in connection with an animal cruelty investigation. There were approximately 100 dead animal carcasses mixed in with the living animals in their pens, according to authorities.

The Henderson Humane Society first responded to a complaint on Chase Rd. in Reed, Kentucky after complaints of numerous animals, inhumane living conditions, and a strong odor.

Animal control officers located numerous animals in bad living conditions, according to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.

The Humane Society involved the sheriff's department due to what they called the extreme conditions and possibility of criminal charges.

Authorities said Doil How Stogner, 73, gave permission for a search of his residence.

During that search, authorities said over 400 animals were found on the property and 100 dead animals were mixed in with living animals in their pens.

Authorities said Stogner had chickens, rabbits, pigs, goats, turkey, geese, ducks, doves, dogs, and a miniature horse on his property.

The animals were taken by the Humane Society and removed to another location for evaluation and care.

Stonger surrendered ownership of the animals to the Humane Society.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed in the future.

The Humane Society is asking for donations to help cover the cost of taking care of these recovered animals.
