Hundreds of jeeps take drive to support local police

It all started when strings of violence started breaking out against law enforcement and Evansville Area Jeepers realizing something needed to be done.

Last year they took to the streets with a caravan of 162.

Today, 230 jeeps lined up to drive from Mt. Vernon to Newburgh all for one reason, to back the blue.

A simple thirty-mile ride with a huge message.

“We wanted to do something to show our local law enforcement that hey there are people out here that respect you and are thankful for what you do,” said Ryan Sermersheim, President of EAJ.

Jeeps, one by one, gathered in an empty lot. All adorned with flags and stripes showing their support.

“These guys put their lives on the line every day and most people in the community don’t think twice about it,” said Sermersheim.

Getting a police escort through three counties as they made their way from Mt. Vernon to Evansville, then passing under a giant flag to their final stop in Newburgh.

“We’re behind them and that they have a job that not anybody wants to do and they do it day in and day out,” said Shain Uhde, an EAJ rider.

“They do see the support they do feel the support out there especially when they visibly see this convoy driving through the middle of town they see it,” said Jose Coby, an EAJ Rider.

Hoping that their message speaks for a larger population.

“This kind of thing doesn’t happen every day it certainly doesn’t happen in this area so when something that big comes out to show support it catches the attention of the community,” said Sermersheim.

Lifting up law enforcement and bringing the community together for those that protect them every day.
